Stamp 3 Evaluation

In my third stamp, I have used the images I have collected from the trip I went on to Tropical World this trip was to find out information about some plants and animals that originate from brazil, we had a booklet which we filled in with information about snakes and some other animals we saw throughout the day. I have used three images of leaves I had taken from the trip to tropical world. I had traced over them and once I had filled the page with three images of leaves I chose to have a different Olympic event on each leaf, I chose to have a pole vaulter, from Brazil - Fabiana Murer who was 1st place at the South American Championships in Argentina in 2011, and the World Championships in Daegu also in 2011, however in the 2012 London Olympics she placed 15th, despite this she will probably be part of the Brazilian Olympic team for 2016, for the other leaf I chose to have the Brazilian gymnast Daiane dos Santos who was the bronze medallist at London 2012 Olympics and will be most probably competing in the Rio Olympics 2016. This relates to the brief, as I have used my own pictures I have taken from the trip we went on as a class. I have also used a background again with the Brazilian colours. I think this stamp relates to the brief well and I am happy with how it looks. I also put on the Rio 2016 text onto one of the leaves; I have then changed the colour to a different shade of green I did this to make it stand out more than it being the same colour as the leaf and being barely visible, the green on the Brazilian flag symbolises the rainforests and nature in Brazil, The Amazon Rainforest one of the many reasons Brazil is talked about all over the world.

Stamp 2 Evaluation

For my second stamp I didn’t have a focal point in mind when creating what I had planned but I was sticking to the same them of having a gradient background which had a free transformed shape, to make it look unique and give it the same style as Pablo Jeffer Da Silva. I had chosen to do this on all four of my stamps but change the shape and way that the shape is transformed to give each stamp a unique look. However after it had been created I chose to make the focal point for my second stamp would be my recreation of “Christ The Redeemer” I think this as I have tried to give the effect that the religious statue is looking over the rest of my image, I chose the Redeemer over other famous landmarks in Brazil as it is one of the largest and iconic out of the many that are in Brazil, when people think of Brazil people would think of the Redeemer statue as it is visited by many tourists who visit there. It is so iconic as it symbolises the religion of Brazil which most of the population is (Christian) the religion of Brazil is such a large part of the culture in Brazil which is another reason I had chosen to have this landmark in my image. I used a Lens Flare to give the effect of a light beaming from behind the Redeemers shoulder, this relates to the brief as it is including the landmarks of Brazil, I used three of the many famous landmarks that are in Brazil. By doing this it is showing that  it is relating to the brief by using my research of Brazil and the Landmarks in my stamps. I have included the “Mineirão” which is the largest stadium in Brazil, and will most probably be used for the football games played in the 2016 Olympics, I also chose to use this stadium over the others in Brazil as it has hosted the Confederations cup in 2013 and will host some matches in the 2014 World Cup, I have again included a background using a gradient with the Brazilian national colours which relates to the brief by incorporating a technique used by Pablo Jeffer da Silva who is the artist we have been focusing on throughout this brief.

Stamp 1 Evaluation

For my first stamp, I had chosen to do a Brazilian footballer (Hulk) who plays for the Brazilian national team and for the Olympic team, he competed in the London 2012 Olympics, and will most probably be picked to represent Brazil in their home country at the Olympics in 2016. Beneath him I have traced over the Rio 2016 logo, I have chosen to do this as it will relate to the brief as well as having a footballer as the focal point of my image as it is showing a player who has played for the Brazil national team and I have used the Olympic logo as it will advertise the Olympics which was the main part of the brief. Football is a huge part of peoples lives in Brazil as they will have played it from a very young age, in the favelas, there would be small football pitches where young kids would play football and watch football. For my background I have used an oval shape and transformed it so that it makes a kind of swirl shape, I used a gradient for the colour of my oval and used three colours; blue, green and yellow, I chose these colours as they are the colours of the Brazilian flag, I have stated why these colours are in the Brazilian flag in my contextual research on my blog. On the bottom of my stamp, I have placed the Rio 2016 text on top of a banner sort shape which I created and made fit in with the swirl of my background by using the transform and twist tools in the style of Pablo Jeffer Da Silva which is the Illustrator from Brazil which we have been focusing on and recreating his techniques in the. I think that my first stamp relates to the brief well and I am happy with how it looks.

Refinement of First Stamp

After finishing the outline of a Brazilian international footballer with 'Rio 2016' written underneath him, however at this stage I thought I should add more to it so that it wasn't bland and boring.

I chose to transform an original oval shape using the twist tool in illustrator which gave the effect of a wave type shape, I chose to have a gradient as the colour of the shape to incorporate all three of the Brazilian flags colours into it, this relates to the brief as it will be advertising the Rio Olympics by having the colours of brazil in my stamp and also a modern footballer who plays in the Olympic team. At this stage, I started to think that the writing at the bottom looked too big and covered up quite a lot of the page, so I chose to get rid of the writing and place it on again at a later stage.

Once I had removed the text from the bottom of my screen I didn't really like the way that it was looking, so I decided to change the way my background was, but keeping the same colour, I changed it so it gives the effect of it swirling around the football player. I began to think that the focal point of my stamp(the football player) wasn't large enough and didn't fill much of the image.

I made it larger but then had a problem, because I had grouped everything together and I used lots and lots of brush strokes instead of using as little as possible when I enlarged the whole image it turned out patchy and I and I had to paint over on a new layer to overcome this problem, however before I decided to I thought it would be better to finish off the rest of the stamp, I chose to make a small banner type shape underneath the player smaller than the original text was going to be.

I had the shape and put a slight curve onto it to try and make it fit into the swirl of the background which I thought looked okay but could definitely be improved so I changed it to make it look more unique and look better.

After I used the Pucker and Bloat tool, I then had this shape which I thought was much better than the plain rectangle which I had before. But I then saw that it didn't really fit in with the swirl that I had on the last shape I made. I thought this was a slight issue as if it didn't fit in it would maybe draw attention away from the focal point of the footballer.

I used the twist tool and then ended up with my shape looking like this which I thought looked nice and didn't stand out and I was happy with how my image was looking. I then needed to paint over the footballers face and the Rio 2016 Olympic logo which I had chosen to put in the background as it would help recognise that the stamps are for the 2016 Olympics.

After I had coloured filled in the spaces created by enlarging the original image I thought I would try and add a lens flare by using the technique we had practiced in lesson a few weeks ago. I thought this would be okay as it would draw more attention to the focal point due to it giving the effect of a light beaming.

I put the lens flare behind my footballer as I thought that it would draw attention to him as it looks like a light beaming onto him. I also think that it looks a bit like the sun and this is good as there is a lot of sun in brazil so it relates to the brief of creating four stamps to advertise the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
