Evaluation of Stamps

These stamps are from the London 2012 olympics and I think these look good because they have been made to look like the two pictures that are used are joining to make one larger picture. My favourite out of the four stamps, is the top left which is hald of a bicycle, and the other tyre is made from the London Eye, i think this looks the best out of the four because it is a good way to incorporate the landmarks that are in London. I will try to use this idea in my own stamps by using the landmarks of brazil and making it my own by using another image to complete the bigger picture.

Evaluation of Pablo Jeffer Da Silva

The Butterfly is a different colour making it stand out. The colour scheme is effective and draws attention to the face. The silhouettes cut out of the blue colour look good. I think that behind the face there isn’t going on and looks bland, but I think this may have been done to draw more attention towards the face and butterfly. I think that opacity is used in this image to blend in the butterfly to the background a bit. I also think layers are used to put the face over the butterfly. Glow is used over the solid colour which makes it look as if it has been cut out/ the glow has been used where parts of the shape have been cut out. The focal point of this illustration is the butterfly, and the face, I think this because the colours used don’t necessarily fit in with the colour scheme. From this image I would take the idea of cutting shapes out from the solid colour, to produce more images in the illustration, I would also take using a colour out of the colour scheme to draw attention towards the focal point.

I think the way the illustrator uses smaller images, to make a bigger picture. The colour scheme I think used looks effective as it makes a fish shape and the colours are sea based, e.g, Blues. I think the weaknesses of this illustration are some places are places are blank and I think would look better with more details. Masking has been used to cut out pieces of the solid colour to give the effect of lots of small pieces coming together to make one larger image. I think that the focal point of this image is the part of the fish shape which hasn’t got anything cut out of it, which has the part which says ‘E7’. From this image I will take the idea, cutting parts out of a larger image to give the effect of lots of smaller images used to create a larger image.

I think the way the glow is on the writing, the yellow is contrasting with the blue to draw attention towards the writing. I think that there could be more detail around the edges of the image because it looks to plain and a bit boring. In this image I can see the glow effect being used on the text in the middle of the image which I think makes it look better. From this image, I will take the idea of the text Pablo Jeffer uses. I will also take the idea of making the background a different colour to the focal point. The focal point of the image is the text in the middle, because it is a different colour to the background, and makes it stand out as it dosent fit in with the colour scheme.

Mind Map

By doing a mind map, it helped me decide what I would put on each individual stamp, by looking which parts of my research links together. This has made it easier for me to come up with ideas on how to present my final ideas.

Collage

I did my collage relating to Brazil, however i didn't use many images. and I think I need to include more so it will give me more ideas for my final stamps. I imported images of Brazilian sporting heroes and an image of the rain forest as the background.

Background Research

I found out that in Brazil there are several famous landmarks such as;

The Amazon Rainforest
Christ the Redeemer
Iguaza Falls

I also researched the sporting heroes of Brazil,

Pelé
Ronaldinho
Ronaldo

I have found out about the two largest stadiums in Brazil which are;

Maracanã
Mineirão

I will try to include these into my four stamps aswel as football players from the Olympic football squad.

I also found out that the three colours on the Brazilian flag mean three different things;
The Blue, symbolises the sky of Channel, Brazil which is said to have the bluest sky in the world.
The yellow, symbolises gold from when Brazil became independent from Portugal.
The green is for the rainforests in Brazil, the largest rainforest in the world the Amazon and the nature in Brazil is also symbolised by the green in the flags.

Overview of Brief

For this brief, we have to make 4 stamps to advertise the Olympics in 2016 which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The stamps we will be making must include;

Famous Landmarks
Olympians
Stadiums in Brazil
Sporting Heroes
Traditions

These will need to be included in at least one of the stamps.
